Reconnecting Disconnected Emails
Emails being disconnected are common after a Domain has been transferred to another registrar. This is why it is important to check is a domain has any emails associated with it before you begin the transfer.
If you find yourself in this situation & you do not have the MX & TXT records of the email provider, follow the below steps.
Note: Only do this if the email provider is different from the registrar you transferred from. If the old Registrar and the email provider is the same, and you've finished transferring the domain, click
HERE.
1. Go to securitytrails.com, enter the domain of the email and click "search".

2.
Click
"Historical Data"
on the left panel
& login / or create a free account.
This is where you will see all the DNS records that have ever been set in the past.

3.
Click on
MX &
TXT
to see what the last records that disappeared recently. Make sense of the dates to identify the last active MX & TXT records that you need to re-add to the DNS records.
The TXT record with the "spf" is the one you need for the email.

Once you've sorted the DNS records, it will take within the hour max for the email to reconnect.
Any email that was sent within the last 48 hours will come flooding into the inbox. Emails sent more than 48 emails will not.
If the old Registrar is also the email provider
This is the scenario we are trying to avoid. If the client transferred the domain to us, so they would no longer need to pay the old registrar for hosting, then that means that the email service would also stop.
We have 2 possible solutions:
1. Client continues to pay for the Email Service with the Old Registrar
While the client doesn't need to pay them for Domain Hosting, they will need to pay for email hosting to avoid any sort of interruption. Provided the registrar provides has a stand alone email hosting service
2. Recreate the Email Address in our Rackspace Hosting
This is the most common solution to this situation. We can create the exact same email address in our hosting with Rackspace. The only downside to this is that since we are changing servers, the client will be logging into a new email page with a fresh & empty inbox.
In a way, we can say that their inbox will be "wiped out" due to the transfer.
Optional Info
The Inbox doesn't really get wiped out, but simply remains in their former email provider's server, their old inbox. Switching to a new email provider will have a new & empty inbox in the new server. We can only have 1 email provider per domain you see. We simply advise that their inbox will be "wiped out" during the transfer for easy understanding for our clients that's not tech savy. Many of our clients are business owners & are in the age group that didn't grow up with tech.
